Chief of Equity and Human Rights
The Equity & Human Rights Department works with residents, departments and community institutions to develop fair and equitable access to government and community services; and to support a more inclusive community. We strive to identify needs and connect people and groups to resources, or mediate improvements in service delivery by City departments and/or community institutions. In addition, we work with partners towards creating more sustainable solutions to civil and human rights issues. We invite you to contribute to these efforts, to come partner and lead with us in our mission by applying for the position of Chief of Equity and Human Rights with the City of Dubuque. This position will serve as the official representative on equity and inclusion to departments, the City Manager's Office, elected officials and the community; lead the development and implementation of equity and inclusion initiatives; manage the city Intercultural Competency program and deliver Intercultural Competency training to all employees and external groups; manage an organization-wide effort to advance equity in budgeting, community engagement and high priority service delivery; collaborate with leadership and community stakeholders to establish equity as a shared value across the organization and community; and direct the activities of the Office of Equity and Human Rights. A Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Education, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Communication plus at least one year of professional experience in government, community or educational programs related to equity and inclusion is required.
