Supervisory position involving overall quality control of operations, laboratory practices, and other technical programs. Minimum requirements: Must possess a valid Class II Water Supply Certification issued by the Ohio EPA and must obtain an appropriate Ohio EPA certification for performing laboratory water quality analysis within six months of appointment. Minimum of three years experience in water/wastewater treatment plant operations desired. Starting Range: $50,421 to $66,419 plus excellent benefits.
Position Summary
A supervisory position involving overall quality control of operations, laboratory practices, and other technical programs at Water Treatment Plant or Wastewater Treatment Plant. Position requires knowledge of supervision, operational practices, laboratory testing, data interpretation, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Professional judgment must be exercised in supervision, compliance and operational guidance. Work is performed independently and under the general supervision of the Water Treatment Manager/Wastewater Treatment Manager.
Position requires the necessary physical condition to perform moderate physical labor over a sustained period of time primarily outdoors; standing, walking, bending, and carrying moderate weight items (25-50 pounds) such as tools, equipment, and supplies.
Position Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED supplemented by courses in chemistry, biology, laboratory procedures, algebra, and water/wastewater treatment; minimum 3 years experience in water/wastewater treatment plant operations; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of the theory and practice of water/wastewater treatment plant operations.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures, ability to perform a variety of chemical tests and evaluate the results.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective supervision.
- Ability to interpret and comply with local, state and federal regulations.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships and communications with staff and the public.
- Considerable knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety regulations.
- Ability to keep records and prepare clear and concise reports.
- Ability to effectively utilize a computer and software, including spreadsheets, word processing software.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Knowledge of the City, department, and division policies and procedures
- Water Treatment - Must possess a Class II Water Supply Certification issued by the Ohio EPA and must obtain an appropriate Ohio EPA certification for performing laboratory water quality analysis within six months of appointment.
- Wastewater Treatment - Must possess a Class II Wastewater Operators Certification issued by the Ohio EPA. A Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certification is desired.
- Possession of a valid Ohio Drivers License.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Water/Wastewater Treatment Managers, Treatment Plants Maintenance Supervisor and others regarding the efficiency of plant operations, regulatory compliance, and other technical programs.
- Assist in preparation of the annual budget and actively participates in long-range planning and development of a capital improvement program.
- Assist operations staff in diagnosing and correcting operational problems.
- Review plant operation and laboratory records; and coordinate with operations, laboratory and technical programs.
- Develop policies and procedures for effective and safe operations and lab analyses.
- Assist in design of facility needs for instrumentation, process controls, and chemical treatments.
- Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, for plant interaction and customer service.
- Oversee general plant quality control.
- Participate in plant decision-making processes and assist in administrative functions.
- Understand and follow City, department, and division policy and procedures.
- Maintain regular and timely attendance.
- Perform related work as required by supervisor.
